He's right about Texas politics. And also left.

[Readers can find the story in the Daily Buzz section of the Quorum Report.] From the QR story: HE 19 candidate James White this evening described as “a desperate lie” the disclosure by the Tuffy Hamilton campaign of student and parental complaints against White of inappropriate and sexual references made while teaching at the Livingston [...]

All Texas politics all the time from the San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle

Former Texas solicitor general Ted Cruz revels in the Houston Chronicle’s endorsement of Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in an interview with Sean Hannity, who endorses him (at the very beginning, notes the Cruz camp):

A ruling affecting health care, including contraception, for some 130,000 low-income Texas women probably won’t come until late this year as Planned Parenthood and the state of Texas plan for mid-October oral arguments in their legal fight.  The state is appealing a preliminary injunction that U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel granted  six weeks ago preventing [...]

We Need Your Ideas for Publicizing Pre-K

Do you have any suggestions for how the state or school districts can do a better job of getting the word out to parents about pre-kindergarten programs?

Maybe you are familiar with other successful strategies for outreach to low-income families, or have ideas of ways that state or local agencies can help inform parents about pre-k opportunities.

If so, share your ideas by July 9th through this online survey:  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8FHCQTB.

The survey is part of the work the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is doing to implement a bill I passed last year to improve outreach and enrollment in pre-k.

The former state demographer recently suggested that improving educational opportunities for children before they reach kindergarten is one of the key strategies for reducing our high school dropout rate and maintaining our state's prosperity.

Research shows that voluntary pre-k programs in Texas schools are a key part of that early childhood education strategy, helping low-income students start kindergarten with the tools they need to succeed in school and beyond.

Yet, too many parents of eligible children don't know about the availability of public school pre-k or the benefits for their children.  Many of those kids are already behind on the first day of school and may never catch up.

Please share your outreach strategies and let your friends and colleagues know about this opportunity to speak up.
