Yesterday a small beam of light broke through the stormy Austin skies when the House Ways and Means Committee approved Mike Villarreal’s House Bill 658 repealing a subchapter of the state tax code that has allowed companies getting property tax breaks from cities or counties (after the state ended the ability of school districts to offer such) to get additional tax relief from the state.
In a prepared release, Villarreal said, “This is a first step towards closing tax loopholes so we can continue funding our children’s education.”
