Press Advisory: House Committee Approves Tax Break for Yachts - Villarreal Criticizes Move

House Committee Approves Tax Break for Yachts

Villarreal Criticizes Move as Legislature Cuts Education and Nursing Homes

Austin - Today Rep. Mike Villarreal (D-San Antonio) strongly criticized the House Ways and Means Committee for approving a tax break for yachts at the same time that the Legislature is proposing drastic cuts to education, nursing homes, and other basic services. Yesterday the Committee, of which Rep. Villarreal is a member, approved HB 2187 by Rep. John Davis (R-Houston).

"With all due respect, sometimes I'm not sure what planet my Republican colleagues live on," said the flabbergasted Representative. "How can they say tax breaks for yachts are a higher priority than supporting our children's classrooms or keeping nursing homes open?"
