I ran into a librarian who told me she started a blog to track how many librarians were losing their jobs because of the budget cuts to public education. Here is her letter to me and a link to the blog, which has an interactive map. It is heartbreaking to see the geographic representation of the budget cuts and what this means for children across Texas who lose a valuable resource.

While Republicans control the agenda in the House, Democrats are left without much power to intervene in the process. At one point, Rep. Mike Villarreal, D-San Antonio, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, told the chamber that 5,000 teachers have been laid off while the Legislature disagrees over the budget.

Diego Bernal and Ralph Medina are in a runoff for City Council District 1. The election will be held on June 11.
Once again neighborhood leaders in my district are teaming up with the League of Women Voters to host a District 1 Council candidate forum.
